Images from the stay and destination
Why it is interesting
Uzbekistan has opened rapidly to international tourism, and the Silk Road cities — Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva — are among the most remarkable destinations in the world for architecture and history. Tashkent is the natural gateway, and the Hyatt Regency offers full international five-star standards here at rates that consistently surprise travellers accustomed to Hyatt pricing in Western Europe or North America.
Why it is good value
Central Asia remains one of the last regions where an international five-star brand can be accessed at genuinely affordable rates. The Hyatt Regency standard brings reliable quality, loyalty programme access and the confidence of an international booking system to a destination where independent research can otherwise be complex.
Price notes
Tashkent’s rates are influenced by government and business travel demand. Rates for leisure travellers are often competitive, particularly outside major conference periods. Check rates against the spring and autumn shoulder seasons for the best combination of weather and pricing.
Location and nearby sights
The hotel is centrally located in Tashkent. The Hazrati Imam complex — one of the Islamic world’s most important sites — and the extraordinary Soviet-era Metro stations are the city’s main sights. Chorsu Bazaar is one of Central Asia’s great market experiences. Day trips or overnight trains to Samarkand (approximately 2 hours by high-speed train) are very practical.
Food and things to do nearby
Uzbek plov — rice cooked with lamb, carrots and spices — is a national institution and worth seeking at a local plov centre rather than a tourist restaurant. Samsa (baked pastries), shashlik (skewered meats), laghman (pulled noodles) and the tea house culture make Uzbekistan a genuinely rewarding food destination.
Best time to book
April–May and September–October offer the best weather for both Tashkent and the broader Uzbekistan itinerary. Summers are very hot; winters can be cold and grey.
Watch out for
Uzbekistan’s tourism infrastructure, while improving rapidly, is still developing. Some aspects of a visit — particularly in smaller cities — require more independent planning than mature tourist destinations. Check visa requirements for your nationality in advance.
Verdict
Strong value. An international five-star standard at a price that reflects Central Asia’s remarkable affordability, and an excellent base for one of the world’s most underrated travel itineraries.
