Why it is interesting

Stamba is one of those hotels that changes the way you experience a city. Housed in a converted Soviet-era publishing house, it combines raw industrial architecture with careful, thoughtful design. Tbilisi itself has become one of Europe’s most talked-about destinations — a city of sulfur baths, medieval old town, extraordinary food and a wine culture unlike anything else on the continent. Stamba puts you inside all of that.

Why it is good value

Georgia has become more expensive as its reputation has grown, but hotel rates in Tbilisi still sit well below comparable design hotels in Paris, Vienna or even Warsaw. For the quality and identity on offer, Stamba represents strong value in the context of European and Caucasus travel.

Price notes

Tbilisi has experienced significant price increases since 2022. Rates at Stamba can vary considerably by season and room type. The smartest approach is to check shoulder periods — spring and autumn offer strong weather and more competitive rates than the summer peak.

Location and nearby sights

The hotel is in Vera, a neighbourhood with its own character. The Tbilisi old town — with its distinctive overhanging balconies, the Narikala Fortress and the historic sulfur baths — is accessible by taxi. The Georgian National Museum and Freedom Square are nearby.

Food and things to do nearby

Georgian food is one of the strongest reasons to visit the country. Khachapuri, khinkali dumplings, supra feasting culture and Georgia’s ancient natural wine tradition make eating here a genuine experience. Stamba’s own restaurant is strong, and the neighbourhood has excellent alternatives.

Best time to book

April–May and September–October offer the best combination of weather, atmosphere and price. July–August is peak season and significantly more expensive.

Watch out for

Stamba is more a design-led boutique hotel than a traditional five-star. Service can be enthusiastic but occasionally inconsistent. Travellers expecting the polish of an international luxury chain may occasionally notice the gap. That said, the atmosphere, design and location are difficult to replicate elsewhere.

Verdict

Strong value. One of the most interesting hotels in the project and a compelling reason to visit Tbilisi — a city that richly rewards first-time visitors.
